Services Descriptions

Initial Session

The initial session, known as an “intake”, is a scheduled session that is essentially information-gathering. Being provided this information allows me to assess your history, current concerns, and evaluate how I can support those needs. We conduct an in-depth review of paperwork, and formulate initial goals for treatment.

Rate:$135-185 (up to 75 minutes)

Individual

All subsequent sessions, following the initial intake, is a collaborative approach between therapist and client where we engage the therapeutic relationship,  work on goals and complete assessments, as needed. During these sessions, we also assess for possible referrals needed within the community and resources that may be helpful.

Rate: $125 (55 minutes)

Couples

While working through stressors can be 1:1 in therapy, we also recognize that partners & support persons can benefit from being included in the plan of care. For this reason, we offer couples sessions (up to 1 additional person) to attend your weekly session. While this person is not required to attend each subsequent session, we encourage you to include that person when you feel they’re needed. Relationship therapy(2 persons) is designed to aid couples in relieving their challenges and stressors.

Rate: $165 (up to 75 minutes)

Families

Family therapy provides an opportunity for members of a family to create healthy relationships, restore trust and balance, and create a way ahead. Family dynamics such as parent/child, existing family trauma, and families transitioning through separation/divorce. As a therapist and family life educator, people gain knowledge, values and skills which are essential for adult life, a marriage, parenthood and participation in community life.

Rate $185 (Up to 75 minutes)

Intensives

Intensive therapy sessions are longer, more frequent therapy sessions that are focused on a specific goal. They are designed to help people make rapid progress in treating severe mental health issues.

How are intensive therapy sessions different from traditional therapy?

  • Frequency: Intensive therapy sessions may involve multiple sessions per week, even daily meetings.

  • Duration: Intensive therapy sessions may be longer in duration, lasting three or more hours.

  • Focus: Intensive therapy sessions focus on one specific issue or goal (co-parenting counseling, social anxiety, depression, etc).

Our Grounding is the Soil

At Sankofa Family Counseling & Wellness, we understand the impact of historical trauma and racial stressors on families in our community. Our trauma-informed care approach optimizes to promote healing. We recognize that our journey is not individual, and our multi-generational and systemic approach helps us work through concerns that bring you to therapy.

We work with parents and families to acknowledge and heal generational trauma, hold space for emotional processing, engage in deep meaning ruptures and repairs, and emerge as families driven by family values and legacy.

Cultural humility is important to our relationship, recognizing no two cultures are the same, however we invite the healing methods that best serve your journey which is rooted in your family soil. Coming from a long line of healers, it is natural to blend the voices of our ancestors into the healing we need today, it's embedded in everything we do.

Go back and get it! A symbol of the wisdom of learning from the past to build for the future. From the Akan proverb, "Se wo were fi na wosan kofa a yenkyiri," meaning, "It is not taboo to go back for what you forgot (or left behind)."
